Free website monitoring from all over the world

There are quite a few online companies that offer to monitor your website and alert you when it becomes inaccessible from different places around the globe. They send you email and SMS messages along with reporting features. And there are a few good ones that offer this service in a limited function for free.

Goodbye old service provider, your uptime will be missed

Changing hosting providers doesn’t have to be a big headache. I just moved my domains from one hosting company to another with just about zero downtime. I left the old server running after setting up the new one and waited for the domain name to redirect to the new ip address.

I always find it sad to reboot a Linux server

I always hate having to reboot a server. I can almost always avoid it. And that sounds like there’s some effort put into avoiding the reboot, and you might think that — if you’re used to a world of Windows servers. But it’s just not that hard to keep a server up.

Uptime

How silly of me to think I could go a year without a reboot. I guess that’s what I get for ignoring my site over the weekend. Luckily, it didn’t crash until late last night. Oh well… note to self, monitor your own web servers!!!
