Customize your Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 configuration

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the PC does have a config file with settings that are modifiable. You can open the config file in notepad and edit away. Make it read-only when you save so the game doesn’t replace the file with the defaults when you start up. And don’t remove anything or add extra lines or your game will probably crash. It’s also against your legal terms of use psycho-babble i’m sure.

Shows an indicator when there a flash/stun grenade is thrown near you

Maximum packets allowed to be sent per second

seta cl_maxpackets “50″ (defaults to 30)

Maximum ping between you and a server you may join

seta cl_maxPing “200″ (defaults to 800)

Maximum frames per second displayed

seta com_maxfps “120″ (defaults to 85)

Disable/enable lagometer

seta drawLagometer “1″ (defaults to 0)

Enable/disable the dynamic environment (objects will move when shot at etc)

seta dynEnt_active “0″ (defaults to 1)

Enable/disable your HUD

seta hud_enable “1″ (defaults to 1)

Enable/disable in-game console (english keyboards only)

seta monkeytoy “1″ (defaults to 0)

Set the level of anti-aliasing

seta r_aaSamples “8″ (defaults to 2)

Enable/disable distortion from weapons, explosions, etc.

seta r_distortion “0″ (defaults to 1)

Number of lighting sources

Enable/disable depth of field perception

seta r_dof_enable “0″ (defaults to 1)

Play in fullscreen/windowed mode (fullscreen is 1, windowed is 0)

seta r_fullscreen “1″ (defaults to 1)

Number of ping bars displayed (More ping bars = more precision)

seta cg_ScoresPing_MaxBars “10″ (defaults to 4)

Ping interval – 100 means you have a 100 ping when you have full bars. If your interval is 20 it means you have 20 ping if you have full bars, and 20 extra ping for each bar missing, so 6/10 bars would mean 100 ping.

    • There are two config files in there, try searching just for “fps” or “max” and go through each one. Now that Battlefield Bad Company 2 is out I’ve uninstalled Modern Warfare 2. Even the single map beta is more fun to me. The focus on teamwork is what does it for me.

  3. admica: BC2 is a shit! Really! I was an idioot as I bought it. It has basic network connection problem, and the players are too small for those big maps.

    • It’s the same old battlefield rehashed with yet another clumsy server browser interface. 16 vs 16 seems a good size for most of the maps. Some players actually prefer 8 vs 8. Rush mode can be very fun with smaller groups because you are restricted to a section of the map at a time as you plow through the defense. I find the input latency unbearable. They need to make it more responsive like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

  4. admica- In the ini file, if you set the prerendered frame setting to 0, it feels a hell of a lot better. I wouldn’t say no lag, but it’s night and day vs the default.

  5. didn’t work for me, I tried changing it so its not in fullscreen and it didn’t work.. and yes I did make the file read only

  6. Please HELP me, I would like to play the COD 2 in god mode, I have serched for a replacement config file and found one but still cheats don’t work, can SOMEONE help me :D
    I added seta thereisacow “1337″ to the end of the config file, and STILL “NOTHING” happend, what am i doing WRONG??? SOS SOS
